Bridging the Gap for a Complete Smile
A dental bridge is an effective solution for replacing one or more missing teeth, restoring both function and aesthetics. A bridge is anchored using crowns on the teeth adjacent to the gap, with a false tooth (or teeth) placed in between. This structure helps maintain the natural shape of your face and prevents other teeth from shifting out of place. At The Dental Studio, we use high-quality materials to craft bridges that blend seamlessly with your existing teeth, ensuring a strong, natural-looking smile.
Who Can Benefit from Dental Bridges?
Dental bridges are ideal for patients who have lost teeth due to decay, injury, or extraction. They are particularly beneficial for those who want a fixed, non-removable solution and who may not be suitable candidates for dental implants. Individuals looking to restore their ability to chew and speak clearly, or those who wish to maintain their dental alignment, often find bridges an effective choice. In Canberra we offer tailored dental bridge solutions to suit your oral health needs and lifestyle.

What is a dental bridge and how does it work?
A dental bridge is a fixed, non-removable solution for replacing one or more missing teeth. It’s made up of one or more artificial teeth (called pontics) supported by crowns on the natural teeth either side of the gap. Once cemented into place, the bridge looks, feels and functions like your own teeth — and unlike a denture, you don’t take it out at night.
Who is a good candidate for a dental bridge?
Bridges are ideal for patients who’ve lost a tooth through decay, injury or extraction and want a fixed, natural-looking replacement. They’re a great option if you’d like to avoid a removable denture, or if you’re not suited to a dental implant. The neighbouring teeth need to be healthy and strong enough to support the bridge, which we’ll confirm at your consultation.
Why is it important to replace a missing tooth?
A gap left in your smile can cause more than just cosmetic concerns. Surrounding teeth often drift or tilt into the space, your bite can shift, opposing teeth may over-erupt, and chewing and speech can be affected. Over time the jawbone in the area can also change shape. A bridge fills the gap, restores function, and helps maintain the natural shape of your face.
What does the dental bridge procedure involve?
The process is usually completed over a couple of visits. At your first appointment, the supporting teeth either side of the gap are gently prepared, and an accurate impression or digital record is taken. You’ll wear a temporary bridge while your custom bridge is being crafted to match the shape, size and colour of your surrounding teeth. At your next visit, we check the fit and bite, then bond the final bridge securely into place.
Will my bridge look and feel natural?
Yes. Bridges are crafted from high-quality materials that blend seamlessly with your existing teeth in shade and shape. Once it’s fitted, most patients quickly forget the bridge is even there — you’ll be able to smile, eat and speak with full confidence. We take care with aesthetics, especially on front teeth, so the result looks completely natural.
How do I care for my dental bridge?
Caring for a bridge is straightforward, but it does need a little extra attention underneath the false tooth. Brush twice a day and clean under and around the bridge daily using floss threaders, super floss or an interdental brush — your dentist will show you how. Regular check-ups and cleans are essential so we can keep the bridge and supporting teeth in great shape. With good care, a well-made bridge can last many years.
