What to Expect During Dental Implant Treatment

What to expect at The Dental Studio

At The Dental Studio, we offer a personalised dental implant experience, starting with a comprehensive consultation. During this initial appointment, you’ll have the opportunity to meet our caring team, discuss your goals, and undergo a thorough oral examination. We take X-rays and a CBCT scan where clinically indicated, then plan your treatment with you tailored specifically to your needs.

What to Expect

Implant treatment starts with a consultation where we listen to your goals, examine your teeth and gums, and take X-rays and a CBCT scan where clinically indicated. You will receive a written plan with your options, a timeline, the risks and the costs before you decide.

  • One point of contact: every implant patient has a treatment coordinator who helps arrange appointments, explains your plan and liaises with your health fund.
  • Digital planning: 3D imaging helps your dentist plan the position of implants and restorations before surgery.
  • Your input in the design: your replacement teeth are designed with you, taking your face, bite and preferences into account.
  • Payment options: written cost estimates before treatment, and payment plans through Humm, subject to credit approval.
  • Follow-up care: review visits during healing, then regular check-ups and cleans to help look after your implants.

Crafting Your Personalised Treatment Plan

Frequently Asked Questions

What happens at my first implant consultation?

Your initial consultation is a relaxed, no-pressure appointment focused on understanding your needs and goals. We carry out a comprehensive oral examination, take X-rays and a CBCT scan where clinically indicated (a CBCT is $400 and not included in the complimentary consultation), and discuss your smile aspirations in detail. By the end of the visit you’ll have a clear, personalised treatment plan that takes into account your facial structure, function and aesthetics, plus a detailed timeline of what’s ahead.

What technology do you use for planning my implant treatment?

We use X-rays and CBCT scans where clinically indicated to assess bone and nearby structures and to plan implant placement. Results and healing times vary.

Will the process be painful or stressful?

Treatment is carried out using local anaesthetic so the area is numb during surgery. Some discomfort during and after treatment is normal. Pain relief and after-care instructions will be provided. Your dentist will discuss the risks and what to expect at your consultation.

How long does the full implant journey take?

Every patient is different, and your timeline depends on factors like the number of implants, whether any preparatory treatment (such as bone grafting) is needed, and how your body heals. At your consultation we’ll provide a personalised timeline mapping out each stage — from planning, through implant placement, to fitting your final restoration — so you know exactly what to expect at every step.

Will I have someone supporting me through the process?

Yes. Every patient is supported by a dedicated patient coordinator who guides you through your entire implant journey — answering questions, helping coordinate appointments, liaising with your health fund where needed, and making sure you always know what’s coming next. You’re never left to figure it out on your own.

What kind of follow-up care will I receive?

After your implant is placed, we’ll arrange follow-up visits to monitor healing and ensure everything is progressing as planned. Once your final restoration is fitted, regular check-ups and cleans become an important part of keeping your implant healthy long-term. We’ll provide clear aftercare guidance throughout — covering hygiene, what to eat, and what to look out for — so you know what to expect at every stage.
