When should I bring my child in for their first dental visit?
We recommend bringing your child in by their first birthday, or as soon as their first tooth appears. Early visits aren’t just about checking teeth — they help your child become familiar and comfortable with the dental environment, and let us spot anything affecting tooth development from the very beginning.
What's included in a children's dental check-up at The Dental Studio?
Each appointment is tailored to your child’s age and stage of development. It typically includes a gentle examination of the teeth and gums, monitoring of jaw growth and tooth alignment, an assessment of gum health, a professional clean, and preventive treatments such as fluoride application or fissure sealants where appropriate. We also guide parents on at-home brushing, diet and oral care routines.
What preventive treatments do you offer for children?
We focus heavily on prevention so kids avoid problems later. Services include fluoride treatments to strengthen developing enamel, fissure sealants to protect the deep grooves of back teeth from decay, early monitoring of bite and alignment, and education for both child and parent on brushing, flossing and diet habits that protect young smiles.
My child is nervous about the dentist — how do you handle anxious kids?
Our team is experienced in working with children of all temperaments, including first-timers and nervous patients. We use a calm, friendly approach with gentle techniques and child-appropriate language, and we take the time to explain each step so your child knows exactly what to expect. Many families tell us their kids actually look forward to coming back.
Is my child eligible for the Child Dental Benefit Schedule (CDBS)?
The CDBS is a Medicare-funded scheme that supports basic dental services for eligible children aged 2–17. Eligibility depends on family Medicare benefits. We’re happy to check your child’s eligibility for you and explain exactly what’s covered before any treatment begins, so there are no surprises.
How often should my child have a dental check-up?
For most children, every six months is ideal. Regular visits allow us to track growing teeth and jaws, catch decay early when it’s easiest to treat, reinforce good brushing habits, and keep your child relaxed and confident in the chair. Children with a higher decay risk or orthodontic concerns may need to be seen more often, and we’ll let you know what’s best for your child.
